Remember those rumors earlier this year about the Galaxy Z Fold 6 getting a much wider outer screen? Like, Pixel Fold wide? I was getting so excited! I’ve always found the Z Fold 5’s outer screen a bit too narrow for my liking. Sure, it makes it easy to hold and use one-handed, but typing can be a pain, and videos just don’t feel as immersive.

Well, it looks like my hopes might be dashed. Leaker IceUniverse recently posted a picture of what appears to be a screen protector for the Z Fold 6, and it hints at a much smaller change than we initially anticipated. Apparently, the outer screen width is only going to increase slightly, from 57mm on the Z Fold 5 to around 60mm on the Z Fold 6.

Don’t get me wrong, any increase in width is a good thing. But it’s still a far cry from the Pixel Fold’s outer display, which is a joy to use for almost anything.

The leaked screen protector also suggests that the Z Fold 6 will have sharper corners, more in line with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, rather than the rounded corners of the Z Fold 5. Honestly, I’m not too fussed about that change.

If these rumors are true, it seems like the Z Fold 6’s outer screen will have an aspect ratio of around 22:9. That’s still quite a bit narrower than most regular smartphones, which are usually around 19.5:9.

Maybe Samsung will surprise us with a last-minute design change, but I’m not holding my breath. I guess I’ll just have to keep hoping for a truly wide outer screen on the Z Fold 7!
