Remember the hype around the Exynos 2200? It was supposed to be a game-changer, with AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics powering the show. They even gave it a fancy name: Xclipse. Like, ‘X’ for Exynos and ‘eclipse’, because it was going to overshadow everyone, I guess? Honestly, I was excited. I’d been using Exynos phones for a while, and the graphics performance always felt a step behind Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips. So, this AMD partnership felt like a real turning point. But then… things didn’t exactly go as planned. The Exynos 2200 wasn’t bad, but it didn’t blow me away either. The graphics were better, but it still felt like it wasn’t quite on the same level as the top Snapdragon processors. And then there were the rumors… whispers that Samsung wasn’t happy with how things were going with AMD. It seemed like the dream team wasn’t so dreamy after all. Now, the news is out: Samsung is going solo. They’re ditching AMD and building their own GPUs. Part of me is surprised, but another part of me understands. Samsung is a proud company, they always want to do things their own way. They’ve been making their own processors for years, so why not GPUs too?But it does make me wonder… what does this mean for the future of Exynos? Will they finally be able to compete with Qualcomm at the top? We’ll have to wait until 2026 to find out, when the Exynos 2600 with the new Samsung GPU is supposed to launch. It’s a long wait, but hey, maybe this time Samsung will get it right. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. After all, a little healthy competition is always a good thing, right?
