Remember that time I was telling everyone about how excited I was for Ford’s big electric push? I was convinced they were going to be leading the pack, leaving everyone else in the dust. Well, it looks like I might have gotten ahead of myself. News just broke that Ford’s electric vehicle plans are taking a bit of a detour, especially here in Europe.
It turns out that a lot of people, myself included, are still pretty into hybrid cars. I mean, they make sense. You get some of the benefits of electric, like better fuel economy, but you don’t have to worry about range anxiety or finding charging stations on long trips. Plus, let’s be real, hybrids are just more affordable right now, which is a big deal for most people.
Apparently, Ford’s been paying attention to what people actually want. Their European head honcho, Martin Sander, basically said they’re ready to give the people what they want – hybrid cars. He even said something like, “If people are asking for plug-in hybrids, we’re going to give them plug-in hybrids.” Sounds good to me!
Now, I know this might seem like Ford is backtracking on their big electric promises. They are still aiming for a full electric lineup by 2035, but it looks like they’re taking a more practical approach. Sander was pretty clear that they’re not going to bankrupt themselves just to meet some deadlines. They’re going to make sure the numbers make sense, which, honestly, is a relief to hear. I don’t want to see Ford go under just because they’re rushing into something that isn’t ready.
Overall, I’m not too bummed about this whole thing. I think it’s actually a smart move by Ford. They’re listening to their customers and adapting to the market. Besides, hybrids are a step in the right direction anyway. Maybe in a few years, when the technology is even better and more affordable, we’ll all be ready to go fully electric. Until then, I’m happy to cruise around in my hybrid, knowing I’m doing my part for the environment and my wallet.
