So, Huawei just announced that the HDC2024 developer conference is happening from June 21st to 23rd. It’s going down in Dongguan, China, and they’re already selling tickets. I’m super hyped about this, especially since it looks like HarmonyOS NEXT, the so-called “pure blood HarmonyOS”, is finally going into beta!
I’ve been following HarmonyOS since the beginning, and to be honest, I’ve been a little disappointed with the pace of development. It felt like they were playing it safe, sticking too close to Android. But this “pure blood” version? This sounds like what I’ve been waiting for. I mean, no more Android compatibility? That takes guts, and it tells me they’re serious about making HarmonyOS its own thing.
The ticket prices are a bit steep, ranging from 88 yuan (around 12 bucks) for a student ticket to a whopping 5,298 yuan (over 700 bucks) for the VIP package. I’m hoping to snag a regular ticket, which is 698 yuan (about 95 bucks). It’s not cheap, but I’m thinking it’ll be worth it to be there when they unveil HarmonyOS NEXT.
It’s a bit scary to think about all the apps needing to be rewritten, but I think this is the shake-up the platform needs. The fact that they’re aiming to release this alongside the Mate 70 shows they’re all in. I’m hoping this new version will be sleek, intuitive, and truly different from what’s out there. This could be Huawei’s chance to make a real impact in the mobile OS world.
Honestly, I’m a bit nervous about how this is all going to play out, but mostly I’m excited. It feels like Huawei is taking a huge leap, and I can’t wait to see where they land. This HDC could be a turning point, not just for HarmonyOS but for the whole mobile landscape. I’m counting down the days!
