I’ve always been obsessed with new tech, especially smartphones. I remember back when the first iPhone came out, everyone was raving about its sleek design and innovative features. Over the years, I’ve watched as smartphones have evolved, with screens getting bigger and bezels getting smaller. So, naturally, when I heard rumors about the iPhone 16 potentially having even slimmer bezels, I was instantly intrigued!

Apparently, the rumor mill is churning with news that Samsung Display is preparing to kickstart production of OLED panels for the iPhone 16 series in the first half of this year. This comes from reports from South Korean media outlets. They also mentioned that LG Display is in the running for supplying these panels, but there’s some uncertainty surrounding their production timeline.

From what I’ve gathered, the main difference between the iPhone 16 OLED panels and the ones used in the iPhone 15 series is the use of a “thin bottom bezel” for the Pro and Pro Max models. Apparently, they’ll be utilizing something called BRS (Border Reduction Structure) technology to achieve these slimmer bezels. It sounds pretty complex though – something about having to pack the circuitry more tightly under the bezel and bend some wiring downwards.

There have been murmurs about both Samsung Display and LG Display facing difficulties in pulling this off due to the thinner bezel design. However, it seems like Samsung has managed to iron out most of the issues, while the jury’s still out on LG’s progress. Some sources suggest that LG might be facing delays in production because of this.

I think it’s pretty cool how these advancements are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with smartphone design. If the rumors are true, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could have some of the most immersive displays we’ve ever seen on a smartphone! I can’t wait to see how it all plays out in the coming months and if Apple actually delivers on these rumors.
