I’ve always been a bit of an Apple fan. There’s just something about their products that clicks with me – the sleek design, the user-friendliness, the whole ecosystem. So naturally, when it was time to upgrade my old, tired iPad, I went straight for the newest model. Everything was smooth sailing until the package arrived. I excitedly ripped it open, expecting to see the usual accessories nestled alongside my shiny new iPad. But something was missing. The charger.I was honestly taken aback. I mean, this wasn’t an iPhone, where no charger has been the norm for a while. This was an iPad! For a second, I felt a flicker of annoyance. Was this some cost-cutting move? Then I remembered reading something about Apple phasing out chargers from some of their iPad models. A quick search online confirmed it – the EU, UK, and a few other regions were now getting iPads without chargers in the box. Okay, I get it. Apple’s whole spiel about reducing waste and being environmentally conscious does make sense. After all, most of us who’ve been using iPhones for a while already have a drawer full of those little white cubes. And let’s be honest, they’re pretty much interchangeable for most Apple devices. So yeah, from that perspective, including a charger with every new iPad does seem a bit excessive. But still, there’s a part of me that feels like something’s missing. There’s a certain satisfaction in unboxing a new gadget and finding everything you need right there. It feels complete, like a little self-contained universe of tech goodness. Then again, maybe this is just me being a creature of habit. We’re all so used to getting a charger with our electronics that its absence feels jarring. But if it’s for the sake of the environment, maybe it’s a change we need to get used to. Plus, let’s face it, most of us really don’t need yet another charger gathering dust in a drawer. In the end, I ordered the charger separately. It wasn’t a big deal, really. And hey, maybe this is the start of a new era where we’re all a little more mindful about our consumption and the impact it has on our planet. If ditching a few chargers is what it takes, then I’m all for it.
