So, the Five-One holiday just wrapped up, and everyone’s talking about the EV sales figures. Honestly, I was pretty surprised by some of the numbers, especially seeing how Tesla didn’t quite hit the top spot.
You see all these reports flying around online, bloggers showing off the order numbers for different brands. Ideal, this Chinese company, they apparently raked in 23,000 orders. The Ideal L6, their new model, seems to be a real hit, pulling in over 10,000 orders all by itself.
Tesla, on the other hand, landed somewhere around 15,000 orders. I guess Elon’s big push to get that Full Self-Driving thing working in China is helping, but still… not the dominant force they usually are.
Then you’ve got Huawei’s Aito brand, they pulled in 11,000. Seems like people are really digging those new M5 and S7 models. What’s interesting is that Xiaomi, they also got around 11,000 orders. Their initial sales push ended in April, but the hype is still real.
And it’s not just the new kids on the block. BYD, the old guard, they’re still killing it with something like 75,000 to 80,000 orders. Their classic Dynasty series seems to be making a comeback.
Now, I gotta say, some of these brands have some pretty weird pre-order systems. Folks online are joking about them, calling them “Dragon Crystal” orders or something like that. Basically, it means you can’t be totally sure how many of these orders are gonna turn into actual sales.
But overall, it’s clear: people in China are really into EVs right now. Even with some cities pulling back on those sweet, sweet subsidies, the momentum is undeniable. It’ll be interesting to see how these companies, especially Tesla, adapt to this new playing field. Will they double down on those self-driving features? Will they adjust their pricing? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure, this EV race is just getting started.
