I’ve always been a Xiaomi guy. Their phones are sleek, powerful, and most importantly, affordable. So, when it came time to replace my trusty Xiaomi 13, I naturally gravitated towards the newer models: the Xiaomi 14, the 14 Pro, even the impressive 14 Ultra. I mean, who wouldn’t be tempted by those specs and that price point?
But then something unexpected happened. I started hearing buzz about the Huawei Mate60 Pro. I’ll admit, I wasn’t initially interested. Huawei phones have always seemed a bit out of my reach, known for their premium price tags. Plus, with all the talk about US sanctions, I was skeptical about their software and app ecosystem.
However, the more I read about the Mate60 Pro, the more intrigued I became. People were raving about its camera, its performance, its overall user experience. A report by QuestMobile caught my eye, stating that the Mate60 Pro was the top-selling newly released Chinese phone in 2023. Not just that, a significant 1.8% of Xiaomi 13 users had actually switched to the Mate60 Pro, making it the only non-Xiaomi phone in the top 5 choices for upgrading Xiaomi 13 users. That got me thinking, maybe there’s something special about this phone that’s making even die-hard Xiaomi fans like me reconsider.
I decided to give it a shot. I headed to the Huawei store and got my hands on the Mate60 Pro. And let me tell you, I was blown away. The design felt premium, the display was gorgeous, and the camera…well, the camera was simply phenomenal. The performance was snappy, and the software, despite my initial worries, was smooth and intuitive.
Suddenly, the higher price tag didn’t seem so daunting anymore. It felt justified for the level of quality and experience I was getting. It wasn’t just a phone; it was a statement. It was a statement that Huawei was back in the game, and they were back with a vengeance.
What surprised me the most was the sense of community around Huawei. There’s a real passion among Huawei users, a sense of pride in owning a phone that’s pushing boundaries and defying expectations.
Don’t get me wrong, I still have a soft spot for Xiaomi. They make great phones, and they’ve come a long way. But for me, the Huawei Mate60 Pro offered something more. It offered a combination of cutting-edge technology, elegant design, and a sense of belonging to something bigger. It was a leap of faith, but a leap I’m glad I took. And who knows, maybe this is just the beginning of my Huawei journey.
