So, I finally took the plunge and upgraded to the new iPad Pro with the M4 chip! I was super excited, but one thing caught me off guard: there’s no SIM card slot! Yep, Apple went all-in on eSIM for these new iPads, which is pretty wild. At first, I was a little hesitant. I mean, I’ve always used physical SIM cards, and the idea of a virtual one felt kind of weird. Plus, the Apple website specifically said that in mainland China, these iPads only support China Unicom eSIM. That made me a bit nervous since I use a different carrier. Luckily, switching to China Unicom and activating the eSIM wasn’t as difficult as I thought. Their website had a clear step-by-step guide, and their customer service was really helpful. Within a couple of hours, I was up and running with my new eSIM! Honestly, now that I’ve made the switch, I kind of love it. No more fiddling with tiny SIM cards and that annoying little tray! Everything’s just…there. It feels very futuristic, you know? Plus, it’s super convenient being able to manage my cellular plan right on my iPad. I did read somewhere that the new US version of the iPad Pro doesn’t support 5G millimeter wave anymore, only Sub-6GHz. Apparently, millimeter wave is super fast, but the signal doesn’t travel as far and can be blocked more easily. It makes sense that Apple might ditch it if it’s not really practical for most people. Anyway, I’m loving my new iPad Pro and the whole eSIM experience. It’s definitely the future! I guess it’s time to say goodbye to those little pieces of plastic and embrace the digital world, right?
